Papers, Please was created by Lucas Pope, who left Naughty Dog, famous for the Uncharted series, to create the original game (Aloia).Ī trailer for the short film adaption of Papers, Please was released recently. There are numerous terrorist attacks and various situations which make you question your morals and beliefs. While the game may seem simple and light-hearted, that is far from the case. Then, you must accept or deny entry into the country. Your job as a border control agent is to inspect each person’s passport, and as the game progresses, additional items, to make sure they are not forging their documents. Papers, Please is a relatively simple indie game where the main goal or purpose is to work as border control in a country called Arstotzka. One of my favorite video games, I’d have to say, is Papers, Please. In my case, I just found out that this has happened. While there are some other colors in the game, the majority of the world is very, very grey.It’s always nice when one of your favorite video games gets some sort of extension or adaption.
The pixel art style of Papers Please and the seemingly limited color pallet make the world of Papers Please seem dark and hopeless. Suddenly the faceless paper pusher that you are playing will begin to become human, as you realize that the characters you meet in the game aren't really characters at all, they represent real people who you may well be sending to their deaths. If you do detain them, you send them to a building that people enter, but never seem to leave, and there is an incentive to doing this. You sometimes get the option to detain people. Do you split up the family in effect saving your own, or do you let them in knowing that you might be sending your family to their deaths? Some characters are trying to escape the violence and poverty of their own country, and if you send them back they'll die. So there comes these times in the game where a family of two will be trying to enter the country, but only one of them has a passport.
